[REC] is a Spanish horror being touted as one of the scariest movies of all time, and tonight it has been released here in New Zealand.

"After its screening in Auckland one of the cleaning staff was very upset with me because there were two people who vomited from motion sickness," says Ant Timpson, the film's distributor. "Someone got too frightened and left a little present..."

That's right. One New Zealand audience member actually soiled themselves in sheer terror.

[REC] is getting rave reviews worldwide: a horrifying horror that follows a sexy Spanish reporter and her cameraman Blair Witch-style, who are spending a night out with the local fire department.

Of course, things go wrong.

Timpson was planning on serving extreme bloody marys at tonight's Rialto premiere: a drink containing actual human blood.

Unfortunately he could have been fined up to $100,000 for doing that, so the plan bled out and died.

"Apart from being disgusting...it's also illegal under the Food Act of 1981," says Timpson.

But while the extreme bloody mary is dead, the movie is alive and well. [REC] is playing at the Rialto theatre in Auckland, and the Paramount in Wellington.
